Evan Writes Cars

I love cars, I love to read, and I love writing. So now I drive cars and then I write about them. Sometimes it’s on the road, but it could be on the track, in the dirt, or chasing cones in a parking lot. Reviews, insights, experiences and stories. I’m always up on the latest in automotive news and innovations, and I could tell you what car to buy, but let’s face it, you’ve already decided.

A Little Bit About Me

I grew up in New Brunswick but came to Halifax about almost 20 years ago. I got my license the first day I could, and I learned to drive in a blizzard. I’m a mechanical engineering technologist by education but am pursuing my dream to be an automotive journalist. I know cars, I know technology, I know how the two work together. I like to create, fix and do things with my hands, and I am always trying to figure out how things work. I spend my days reading, writing, driving, working on my cars, racing my cars, and competing in time speed distance rallies with my navigator-for-life.

I’ve written for autoTRADER.ca, autoguide.com, exhausted.ca, hybridcars.com, wheelwell.com, and more, and I’d love to work with you.

How Much Does Charging Your EV Really Cost?

What I realized is that buyers don’t seem to know just how much it costs to charge an EV. I realized that I didn’t know how much it would cost to charge an EV either. But I wanted to find out. We all know exactly how much it costs to put gas in the tank – look at the...

Driven: 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack

Driven: 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack

When I picked up the 2017 Volkswagen Alltrack, it didn’t make any sense to me. Why would anyone want a Golf wagon that was lifted an inch? Why do grey fender flares and mirror caps justify a price hike of $1,500 over a Sportwagen? Sure Subaru’s been doing this formula...

Driven: 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo

Driven: 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo

The Hyundai Veloster is a strange car that, much like the young drivers it is aimed at, seems to have trouble deciding exactly what it wants to be. It's a coupe, but it has a hatch. It's a two door, except that one side has an extra door. It's supposed to be sporty,...

First Drive: 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback

The introduction of the hatch, combined with the diesel engine announced for early next year, is also a direct shot at the head of the hatch class, the Volkswagen Golf, which no longer has the popular diesel option. Read More: (via autoTRADER.ca)
